The Catleaps Gymnastics Invitational Competition is a progressive Floor and Vault competition programme. Generally, compared to the Artistic pathway, there are fewer opportunities for ‘Gymnastics for All’ gymnasts. We have created this competition because we believe that GfA Gymnasts should also have their chance to shine and perform in an arena.
We have an experienced team of staff with a wealth of knowledge of gymnastics and running large gymnastics competitions and events. Consequently, our competition allows gymnasts to have enjoyable and positive competitive experiences.
In order to ensure that the routines are progressive, we’ve planned the rules carefully. As a result, gymnasts can develop through the competition levels while still being challenged.
Lower stages of Foundation, Stage 1 & 2 are graded. This means that they are competing against themselves, not specifically against others. Consequently, this results in a non-pressured environment for younger gymnasts.
This competition is open to British Gymnastics registered Clubs. Although the event is based in London, clubs from any region are welcome to enter. For those travelling from further afield, we can offer advice on local hotels and attractions.
Both Girls and Boys are eligible for entry, but subject to the minimum age of Foundation Stage 2 (Reception age). Register for further details of our entry criteria, as listed in the handbook.
As a result of COVID, we’ve been unable to get together and compete for a long time. Therefore, we are hosting multiple competitions in 2022. Please note February Competition has moved to 26th & 27th March.
Ten move set floor routine, on a strip of mats, which allows an introductory start and a non-pressured environment. Gymnasts will perform two Vault preps, with best score counting. All entrants also win a graded medal.
Gymnasts will perform a floor routine on 8x8 carpeted floor (not to music). Two Vaults are performed, with the best score of the two counting. Medals are awarded for the top three gymnasts and ribbons also for positions 4-8.
Floor routine performed on a Sprung Floor (with music for girls). Gymnasts perform two Vaults; and the best score counts. Medals for top three and ribbons also for 4-8. Trophies are also awarded for apparatus winners.
The Jean Brown Arena at the Redbridge Leisure Centre is our competition venue. This impressive Sports Hall is one of the largest indoor sporting venues in London, therefore providing us with plenty of room for a spectacular event.
Major gymnastics competitions such as the English Championships for English Gymnastics, and the Men’s London Open for London Gymnastics have also been held here. As a result, the centre is well-versed in the needs of the gymnastics community.
Based in East London/Essex, the centre is within easy access of central London, Essex and the M25. Parking is available on-site (subject to a fee). Located next to Fairlop Tube Station on the Central Line, it is also easily accessible by public transport.
